One of the first questions I get from parents reaching out is a simple one: “Where do you actually teach?” Because I work with skaters at a few different rinks around the Bay Area, I wanted to put everything in one place so it’s easy for families to find. If you’re weighing which location might work best for you and your skater, this post should give you a clear picture of my current setup.
Why I coach at more than one rink
The Bay Area is big, and anyone who lives here knows how quickly traffic can turn a straightforward drive into a real time commitment. Splitting my week across a few different rinks means families in the East Bay, the Tri-City corridor, and the South Bay all have a reasonable option without having to build their entire schedule around a single location.
It also means I get to work with a broader mix of skaters and be part of more than one rink community. Each rink has its own personality, its own group of families, and its own rhythm — and being around all of that has made me, I hope, a more well-rounded coach.
Who I work with
I work with skaters at a range of levels — from beginners still building the fundamentals to more advanced skaters refining technique. My focus stays on skating itself: edges, turns, jumps, spins, footwork, and the confidence and discipline that come with steady, deliberate practice. If you’re not sure whether your skater is the right fit, I’m always happy to have a conversation and figure it out together.
Oakland Ice Center — Oakland
If you’re based in the East Bay, Oakland Ice Center is often the most convenient option. It’s a well-established rink in downtown Oakland with easy access from most of the East Bay and parts of San Francisco.

Sharks Ice at Fremont — Fremont
For families in the southern East Bay, the Tri-City area, or the northern parts of the South Bay, Sharks Ice at Fremont is often the more practical choice. It’s a large facility with multiple ice sheets and a full range of on-site amenities for skaters and their families.
- Address: 44388 Old Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538

Sharks Ice at San Jose — San Jose
Down in the South Bay, I work out of Sharks Ice at San Jose, one of the largest ice facilities in the region. If you’re coming from the South Bay, the Peninsula, or points south, this is typically the most workable option.
- Address: 1500 S 10th St, San Jose, CA 95112

Choosing the rink that fits your family
There’s no single “right” location — the best rink for you and your skater is usually the one you can actually get to consistently. When I’m talking with a new family, we tend to work backward from a few practical questions:
- Where are you coming from, and at what time of day?
- How consistent can that commute realistically be over the course of a season?
- Does your skater already train at a particular rink for other sessions or classes?
- What does the rest of the family’s schedule look like — school pickup, siblings’ activities, work hours?
The answers usually point pretty clearly to one of the three locations. Some families are firmly rooted at their nearest rink; others are willing to drive further for a specific window in the day. Both approaches can work.
If you’re not sure yet, it’s completely fine to try more than one before settling in. What matters most is that you land somewhere that supports steady, regular practice — because in this sport, consistency is what actually moves a skater forward.
Let’s talk
If you’d like to discuss training or figure out which of these rinks would fit best for your family, please reach out. I’m happy to talk through what you’re looking for, answer questions about my approach, and help you decide which location makes the most sense. You can get in touch with me through the contact page on this site.
Thank you for reading — I look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully meeting you and your skater on the ice soon.
